News: | Funding for council services could see a reduction of 90% by 2020, the Local Government Association (LGA) has announced. Energy secretary Ed Davey today called for a national roll-out of collective bargaining on energy prices across the local government sector in order to tackle rising energy bills. The efficiencies being made by local government are ‘evolutionary rather than revolutionary’ and will not be enough to make the savings required in the next Comprehensive Spending Review, warned Simon Parker director of the New Local Government Network. Although local authorities have made significant savings since the Comprehensive Spending Review, any further cuts will impact on frontline public services, delegates at the 2012 LGA conference have heard. |
